Lost is a sculpture book that was designed by Bill Woodrow during his artistic residence at the Opificio della Rosa in Montefiore Conca (Italy) in June 2015.The prototype was made on Fabriano Unica paper, and drawn on both sides in black, with oil pastels, with the intention of creating a landscape that ran the eight meters of its extension. It was designed as a leporello book, with pages of different sizes that could stand like sculptures, zigzagging in space and with further parts that opened up as pop-ups to ideally continue the landscape, through the development of rivers and lakes. The pages of the leporello would be folded into a 50×70 cm book.In June 2015, Bill Woodrow, together with Umberto Giovannini, investigated the possibilities of its translation into colour woodcuts – reduction process –. Together with Luigi Castiglioni, we have designed the binding with construction and mechanical requirements out of the standard. The project was completed between summer 2015 and spring 2016.
Lost was exhibited in April 2016 at the New Art Center in Salisbury (UK) and the Biennale del Disegno in Rimini (Italy).
Acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
